Seems like every quarter I feel the need to sort and dump stuff from my room. This is inevitable for someone like me who lives in a medium-sized condominium.
So what to do with old magazines/newspapers, unwanted books, beyond-repair electronics, old mobile phone batteries, etc.? I dump them at the monthly Recyclables Fair organized by Ayala Foundation (see poster above for schedule).
They make their rounds in Makati City, Bonifacio Global City, Ayala Alabang and Trinoma Mall (Quezon Ave. area) — places they know have a lot of small apartments/condominiums whose residents need to “purge” stuff every few months.
While it’s ideal to hold a garage sale or to give away to charity, a garage sale takes time that I have short supply of and I certainly cannot dump old batteries on charitable institutions.
One of the perks of going to the Recyclables Fair is I get paid for the trash I bring, too. Not much, but it’s better than nothing and better than dumping it in the garbage chute not knowing where it’ll end up. This way, I know my trash will go to a Materials Recycling Facility and will be disposed of safely and properly.
This project is nothing new, but hasn’t really caught much attention until the past two years. Now, it’s even a learning activity for students on a field trip.
