Video of the German Shepherd mix, Spikey, being rescued by an LA firefighter from the swollen L.A. River. The banks of the river were too steep for Spikey to climb, and the water was rising fast. Watch the video:
But I’d like to know exactly how that dog got himself in that river. He must’ve fallen in it from somewhere, but seeing as he has no injuries, it’s unlikely that he fell from the bridge or the steep banks.
Here is a news video of the aftermath of Spikey and the fireman’s ordeal. The poor guy broke his thumb in the rescue and got bitten by terrified Spikey. But he told the Associated Press, “He’s cold, he’s wet, he’s scared, and then here’s this stranger jumping on his back for all intents and purposes, and he did what dogs do…”
Spikey’s owners were finally reunited with the lucky dog, and after the requisite ten-day quarantine, they’ll be able to take him home.
